Jawbone necklace

From basic tools to divination, humans have found countless ways to use bones. The practice of creating bone jewellery for human adornment dates back over 80,000 years, and has remained popular in every era of cultures worldwide. Decorate yourself with this bone necklace, and live your authentic self!

A skeleton in the forest may look out of place, but is part of the circle of life. Carnivores will break through fresh bones to get to the fatty marrow, and herbivores like squirrels and deer will chew on the old bone pieces to get calcium for lactation and antler growth. As fungi and bacteria break down the rest of the bone pieces, the nutrients are returned to the soil to feed the plants, which continues the food chain when the herbivores eat them.

A single side of a rodent jaw has been cleaned, drilled, and attached to a jump ring to create the pendant. A metal leaf charm has then been added which follows the slight curve of the bone.  The pendants are around 4cm in height but will vary depending on the animal's size, and come with  an 18 inch steel-coloured chain with a lobster clip fastener as standard.

The pendant you receive may be the left or right side of the jaw, and will be as intact as possible. Whilst care has been taken to reattach any molar teeth that have fallen out during the cleaning process, some may (naturally) still be missing.

Transparency is important! Whilst the majority of the bones in this collection come from raptor pellets or found on the ground during walks through the forest, the jawbones used for the pieces in this listing were part of a small donation of animals that were used in a dissection workshop with students from a nearby educational facility. The donation consisted of 6 squirrels, 3 rats, and 3 corvids, all of which lived wild before their death and were not killed for dissection purposes.

This item will arrive on a recyclable unbleached paper-based display card as standard.
If gift wrapping is selected, the items will arrive in a recyclable unbleached paper-based box with a sponge insert, wrapped in tissue paper, and sealed with a sticker. Please reuse or recycle packaging wherever possible.
