‘Putka pumpkin’ earrings

As non-native species to the UK these putka seed pods come from an Australian plant commonly called the ‘cheese tree’. 

The fruits of the cheese tree look like mini cheese wheels or pumpkins, and are an important food source for many birds who then spread the seeds around the forests. These plants then play an important role in the ecosystem by stabilising river banks, cresting shelter for tree-dwelling species, and providing food for many invertebrates.

These earrings are made from putka seed pods with gold coloured wire running through. The wire is connected to a gold coloured earring hook with a silicone earring back, small drop of resin secures the wire at the bottom for extra strength.

Each earring will vary as every putka seed pod is completely unique in colour, shape, and size, so pairs have been selected to complement each other.
